The Last Station-An Overview

The Last Station

The Last Station

All you fans of War And Peace, brace yourself for a movie all about the writer of your favourite book.

That’s correct-Leo Tolstoy is being portrayed in a blend of fact and fiction in the upcoming drama, The Last Station.

Based upon Jay Parini’s novel about Leo Tolstoy, The Last Station is about the marriage of Leo Tolstoy and his wife Sofya, in its final years.

The movie is directed by Michael Hoffman. The role of Leo Tolstoy is being played by Christopher Plummer (The Sound of Music), while  the role of Sofya is being played by Helen Mirren (The Queen). Though the release of The Last Station is scheduled to be at a time when one of the most highly publicized films of Hollywood, Avatar, is releasing, the movie is expected to do well. Critics have already lauded Helen Mirren’s role, terming it her tour de force. After her spellbinding performance in The Queen, such a term means a lot.

Also starring are acclaimed actors James McEnvoy, a young man who works for the couple, and Paul Giamatti, an advisor to the writer.

Movie buffs have reason enough to anticipate the arrival of the film. And those who love drama and have a taste for Leo Tolstoy, here’s a treat.

The theme of the movie and its cast make it a film worth looking forward to. And as for the timing, it should not matter, because history bears witness to the fact that the best made movies do well on the box office, no matter when they are released.
